I "might" be getting my old Tesla Model S 2012 back today from Tesla.
My 170k miles original Motor was replaced and a bunch of "essential" electric parts they determined crucial.
After 6 weeks or so of estimate updates and delays - $8800 is the final bill.
Conclusion - The risk of higher chances for expensive repairs increases dramatically after the warranty expires.
Tesla is still not a Subaru or even a Honda, in the simplicity of repair, access to parts, and availability of competitive capable repair shops.
I highly recommend adding the Extended warranty, even if you just want to add value for resale purposes.
The current ESA is for 2 years, 25k miles, only available to purchase before the Warranty expires, with no grace period.
The Cost for 3, Y, S &X (Only available for S & X pre 2020) is $1.8k, $2k, $3.1k & $3.5k.
Highly recommended from personal experience.
for comparison, Ford Protect offers an extended warranty on top of their embarrassing 36k miles and 3-year warranty
(8 years, 100k miles on all-electric drive components).
Ford ESA is for a total of 6 years, 75k miles - $2700 for Mach-E and $3000 for a Ford Lightning.
